Score Your Avatar's Name

Saturday, June 28, 2008 Saturday, June 28, 2008

Last week I posted an analysis of the important characteristics of avatar names. The post proved so popular that I decided to build a tool with which you can calculate a score for your name's coolness!

After some experimentation with scripts, I believe I now have an easy-to-use tool ready for use here. It's quite straightforward: just answer the questions below, hit the "Score Me!" button at the bottom and your name's rating will be automatically calculated. The maximum score is 100.

How does the scoring system work, you ask? I devised scores for all the characteristics based on how I feel about them. Again, like the characteristics, it's my own opinion; yours may differ.

I've added a category for Gender, as correctly pointed out by Vint Falken's comment on the previous post.

Please give the scoring system a try and add your score to the comments; I'd like to see how your name ranks. Mine is only 56.

Your name scores:
out of 100 possible points

Thanks for participating! (and you answer honestly, right?)

79 - though I'm not sure about the "flow" part - otherwise it'd be 72

Woo I got an 87 with my name QueenKellee Kuu

I love my name!! Thanks for the fun tool :)

78

but there should be a category for "all lower case" since beladona is clearly not "sentence case"

I got a 79. When asked about length of name, I assumed you meant first and last name together. For case, sentence case is not quite right for me; my first name begins with a capital letter and my last name begins with a capital letter. I put it down as sentence case, since that was the closest fit.

Yay, 79! Although some of the criteria are pretty subjective...

Score of 79!

Summer Deadlight is easy easy lemon squeezy!

I dont want to buy a new avatar name I love my name just as it is!

scored a 78 here. Cool tool.

I scored 83! I assumed that length of name meant just the first name, though. And I notice that your blog software removes capitalization of names.

Nice tool! I got a humbling 66, and I am not sure about the "flow" part either, left that one out (what do you mean exactly by "flow"?)

How about adding another criteria to your score items: alliteration, because the use of an alliteration as a phonetic stylistic device puts emphasis and kind of a lyrical touch to names. Good Example: Windfairy Welles (hehe - that's me ;-), Buriman Baran
Bad example: Jimmy Baran

btw: is length of name just for the first name or first and last name together?

Got a 72 for Liliana Barrs, I would get more with CamelCase ... but where should I use it in Liliana? lol

80 Points and you mentioned my name in the last post too! Gotta love Goggling my own name. \(^_^)/

hm. Is the first question for the first name, or combined for both?

I could spell Cat Galileo after just hearing it, but I'm not sure if others would get Galileo right first try.

And I can't really tell if it's memorable; I never forget it, at least!

Assuming the most favorable answers for those questions, I got an 88. If the first question includes both first and last, it drops to 84...

80/100 for my name...sadly, there was a time when I was the only "Erbo" in SL. No longer...

Doreen Garrigus. 88 without quotes in the search, 89 with quotes.

Connie Arida : 91 ...do i get a prize???

Harper Ganesvoort said...

Shoot; I thought "Harper" would be a pretty good name, but I came back with only 63. I think I'm getting penalized by the number of people who use "Harper" as their first name; if I had been the only Harper on the grid, I'd have come back as a 71.

Of course, this doesn't matter; for, as soon as you meet me, you can't help but be bowled over by my vivacious, magnetic personality....

(A large tuna drops from on high onto Harper's swollen head, flattening her as well as her inflated ego.)

97. :)

Noelyci Ingmann got a 86. Would be higher, assuming flow is good. *grin* Great fun!

It didn't return a value for me, either. I'll try it again later.

Very cool, tho! Thanks!

I scored 71%. Cool!

76! I can live with that.

62, not bad. =d

Oh Vint, I score you at 71. Be more generous to yourself!

Thaumata said...

I scored pretty high (90) with Thaumata Strangelove, but would be interested to see how someone else scored it. I'm so used to hearing it that I can't imagine being confused by it anymore.

Forelle Broek said...

I scored 90. I was surprised there were others with the name "Forelle" -- I guess I'm not the only Germanaphone trout fisherman in SL.

Marlee Theas said...

awwww Just a 58 for me. I think i deserve more :) Marlee is my female version of a tribute to Bob Marley which I think encompasses the person I am. that has to be worth at least another 20 points. haha
in all seriousness... what a cool little tool!

Anonymous said...

Snap is happy with her score of 91 ;-)

Anonymous said...

pffft ... got a 66

I wish SL had a way of changing/modifying your name ... having picked a name on a whim when I knew nothing of SL ... now, would case it properly ... Rhondo.

Anonymous said...

I got a 92 - and am thinking of a legal name change :)
